What are diabetic foot ulcers?

An open wound or sore that gets worse due to poorly controlled diabetes is called diabetic foot ulcers. It’s quite common among diabetes patients. Daily routine activities like wearing shoes or minor injury can lead to the development of diabetic foot ulcers.

The process of healing is quite slow in the diabetic patients because of high circulation of the blood sugar. Due to this the nerve functioning starts working improperly and injuries don’t heal on its own. Diabetic Foot Ulcers may be painful and highly discomfortable.

Diagnosis

A series of examinations is required to diagnose the  Diabetic Foot Ulcers. Doctors may need your medical history, physical examinations to detect scratches, cuts and blisters, may need to feel a pulse to evaluate the blood flow or even X-rays to look for misalignment in feet. In addition MRI scan may be required to get the idea of exact damage caused by ulcers or to check the signs for any further infections.
