What is Ear Surgery?
Our Ear consists of three parts: Outer, Middle and Inner Ear. All the parts have an important role to play and small problems in any part may disturb the hearing process. Eardrum damage may cause hindrance in hearing which may turn into complete deafness. Perforated eardrum may cause various infections. Most ear infections don’t require any surgery and recover on its own but if the home medication doesn’t work surgery is required.
- The perforated eardrum may cause a conductive hearing loss, and in chronic cases.
- Yellow discharge from the ear
- Infection of the middle or inner ear if exposed to moisture
- Intense pain in the ear that does not subside until the treatment
- Itchiness in the ear
- Infection in the ear
- Injured eardrum due to an intense impact such as a blow
- Sudden unbearable loud noise
- Fluctuation in the air pressure
Diagnosis
Perforation in Ear can be physically diagnosed by ENT or surgeon. Otoscopes are used to diagnose the ear. Auditory Testing can be prescribed to check the hearing capability of the patient using sounds of varying volume and frequency. MRI can be used to get the images of the ears and its surrounding structure.

Surgery
Generally, various other treatments are used to improve the hearing quality. But when the general method fails, surgery remains the only available option. Tympanoplasty is a reconstructive surgery used to treat perforated eardrum. Otoplasty can improve the mobility of the malleus and the tympanic membrane.
