What is Hydrocele?
Swelling of scrotum is known as Hydrocele. Scrotum is the sac that holds the testicle. Generally too much fluid causes the scrotum to swell. It is more common in newborns but it can happen at any age. It isn’t a very complicated or painful condition and it may recover on its own. But consultation with a doctor is required. Two types of Hydrocele is found:
- Non-Communicating Hydrocele- Scrotum is not swollen
- Communicating Hydrocele- Scrotum is swollen
- Scrotal Swelling and Inflammation
- Pain in the scrotal region
- Feeling of heaviness
- Infection in testicle
- Inflammation
- Injury
Diagnosis
A physical examination is required for better diagnosis. Doctors check for tenderness in the scrotum and light transmission will be allowed if the scrotum has fluid in it. In some cases Blood and Urine Test is also prescribed.

Surgery
Non communicating hydroceles doesn’t require any surgery. It recovers on its own in most of the cases. But the urologists suggest surgery in case of communicating hydroceles. There is Hydrocelectomy, where hydrocele is removed. Earlier it was a painful procedure but now it has become painless due to advancement in technology.
